Titanium promoted the development of new
Enhanced alloys.

Titanium is the ninth most abundant element in the earth's crust and the fourth metallic element. Its atomic number is 22, near copper, nickel and iron in the periodic table. Titanium is a metal element well known for its excellent corrosion resistance and its great mechanical strength. Titanium is a lightweight, strong and easy to manufacture metal with low density. As strong as steel and 45% lighter.

In the last three decades, there has been rapid and significant progress in the development of medical instrumentation and implants with the use of Titanium. As the requirements for materials have become increasingly sophisticated, Titanium and its alloys have been experienced in numerous situations. Scientists from the Los Alamos Laboratory (United States) and Bashkir State University (Russia) developed Pure Titanium, a material suitable for the manufacture of medical implants. Pure Titanium has stronger, lighter and more corrosion resistant characteristics. The development of Pure Titanium occurred through the junction of ECAP processes ("Equal Channel Angular Pressing") and cold extrusion.

The main difference between the various types of Titanium F67, or Pure Titanium, is in relation to their hardness. The classification follows a growing pattern, where the type GR4, is the hardest and the Gr 1 is the softest. Its use is widespread in dental implants, used in pure titanium structures, placed in the maxilla or mandible, which replace the roots of lost teeth.

The Pure Titanium F67 Gr 2, is an intermediate material in terms of hardness (available in wire, bar or plate), and is also used in medical applications that require conformation and flexibility in delicate areas such as the maxilla. This material is generally considered chemically inert, compatible with human tissues and resistant to corrosion caused by human fluids. In certain regions of the body, due to the toxicity of other alloys and the non-mechanical requirement of the site of use, in addition to better bone integration, make the Pure Titanium F67 the best option.

For these areas, the Pure Titanium F67 Gr 2 to be used in implant production is defined by the specifications of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). In this case, ASTM F67 – "Standard Specification for Unalloyed Titanium, for Surgical Implant Applications" (UNS R50250, UNS R50400, UNS R50550, UNS R50700), determines the patterns of Pure Titanium to be used in such procedures with F67 Gr 2.

Through these technical specifications, medical researchers evaluated the commercially pure Pure Titanium F67 Gr 2, defining them as exceptional materials for applications in surgical implants. Beyond Titanium Pure F67 Gr 2, several other types were also considered to be highly corrosion resistant and convenient for medical applications, so the acceptance of Pure Titanium F67 Gr 2 is very large.
